Menu & Healthy Eating

  • Hippitots are committed to promoting a healthy eating and lifestyle in a bid to help all of the children who attend our nursery on their way to a long and healthy life.

Healthy eating and it benefits to a healthy lifestyle are promoted through cooking activities, talking about the food we eat and through providing a healthy balanced menu. All of the food served in our nursery is freshly prepared everyday and where possible the dietary requirements of children are taken into account for every meal.

Throughout the day we try to instil traditional values such as respect, manners and positive behaviour and this is carried through to mealtimes. Children eat in either a low chair in our baby room or at a table with their peers in our toddler, pre-school, and out of school rooms as they would a family meal and are supported by staff.

Our Food Hygiene practices meet the requirements of the latest Food Hygiene Regulations as set out in “Safer Food, Better Business” and we are proud to say that for a number of years Hippitots has a 5 stars rating by Environmental Health Inspection.

During your child’s settling in visits you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s diet and any dietary requirements they may have. We will, where possible, provide alternatives for any dietary requirements such as dairy or milk intolerance, vegetarian, cultural requirements etc. but there maybe times when parents and carers are requested to provide food items for their child.

Alongside providing a healthy diet we recognise that exercise is a key part of a healthy lifestyle and we encourage our children to play and exercise outside on a daily basis regardless of the unpredictable British weather. When this is not possible indoor physical activities such as music and movement, yoga etc. is used for physical exercise. Children, from approximately 2 years old, have the opportunity to access an additional service of football skills once a week term time only.
